Seal Once Negative Pressure Waterproofer

Seal Once Negative Pressure Waterproofer

SEAL-ONCE® Negative Pressure Waterproofer (NPW) is a nonflammable, non-toxic, non-acid sealer that strengthens and internally waterproofs cementious materials. It reduces and blocks vapor emissions, but leaves concrete breathable.

Seal-Once NPW reduces vapor emissions for the application of surface coatings such as polyurea coatings, epoxy coatings, and urethane top coatings, as well as carpet, floor tile, sheet vinyl and hardwood flooring materials.

SEAL-ONCE NPW reacts with free alkali in the concrete forming a silica hydrogel that fills the capillaries within the substrate, pushing out harmful chlorides. This hydrogel waterproofs and seals the surface after all materials harmful to the concrete are removed. This process could take up to 30 days on older concrete or longer, depending on the chloride and acidic residual concentration within the capillaries. After the residue is removed, a top coat or flooring materials may be used.

For freshly poured concrete, application of Seal-Once NPW may be used as a curing and sealing agent that reduces the “green concrete” window from 28 days down to an average of five days. This sealer may be applied as soon as the concrete bleed water flashes off. Always check surface for moisture content before applying coatings, or flooring.

Application Instructions

Preparation

All surfaces should be cleaned before sealing for best penetration and performance. Clean all dust, debris, and loose material. Remove oil, grease, algae, grime, mold & mildew stains with appropriate cleaners. Recommend SEAL-ONCE Concrete and Masonry Cleaner.

After cleaning, test absorbancy of surface by sprinkling a few drops of water on the surface. If the water does not readily penetrate the surface, stripping or abraiding will be necessary to remove old coatings prior to applying SEAL-ONCE NPW. Retest surface when dry.

Application

Do not use if air or surface temperature is below 40°F/4.4°C or above 95°F/35°C.

Shake well before using. DO NOT dilute or alter.

All surfaces being treated must be pre-dampened with a light mist of water.

Apply NPW with a low-pressure pump type sprayer, with a fan tip.

On horizontal surfaces, apply in a left to right pattern overlapping 50%. After first coat soaks in, immediately apply a second coat in an up and down pattern overlapping 50%. Avoid over application or ponding. Excess un-reacted product will leave white crystals on the surface; brush or broom to dry areas.

On vertical surfaces, apply from top to bottom to the point of refusal. Apply sealer in two even coats. After first coat has soaked in, immediately apply a second coat.

On horizontal or vertical surfaces, areas that absorb sealer more quickly will require additional coats.

On all surfaces after second coat has soaked in, remove any excess material from surface, and, spray entire treated area with a very light mist of clean water.

Keep dry and allow surface to cure minimum 12 hours, for applications with high moisture transfer allow surface to cure 72 hours.

Coverage

Approximate coverage: 75-200 sq. ft./gallon on rough slab. 250-300 sq. ft./gallon on dense or smooth finished slab. Actual coverage will vary due to surface porosity.

Drying Time

Allow coated surface 12 hours to dry before light foot traffic, and 24 hours before applying any topcoat or flooring. Test surface for moisture content first. For areas with high moisture content, allow surface 72 hours to completely dry.

Cleanup & Storage

Clean sprayer equipment and brushes with cool water. Dispose of empty containers.

Store above 32°F/0°C to protect from freezing.

Shelf life (unopened): 3 years.

No special disposal procedure needed.

Precautions

Clean areas of overspray while SEAL-ONCE NPW is still wet. Do not spray over glass, as it can etch it

Eye protection, gloves and appropriate clothing should be worn to minimize skin contact.

Avoid breathing in spray. If inhaled, move to fresh air.

Avoid contact with eyes. If splashed into eyes, rinse with clean water for 15 minutes.

If skin irritation occurs, wash area with soap and water.

If accidentally ingested, immediately drink 2 glasses of water and contact a physician. Do not induce vomiting.
